Amateur Star Frank Wood Signs With Queensberry

By Queensberry Promotions

THE SIX-TIMES National Champion Frank Wood will turn professional having signed a promotional agreement with Frank Warren and Queensberry.

The England international, who also competed at the 2022 World Championships, will campaign at featherweight and will be trained by Peter Swinney in Bow.

The 19-year-old product of West Ham ABC was the GB No.1 ranked fighter at his weight and his amateur career concluded in the finals of the Senior ABAs last year, when he was on the wrong end of a controversial split decision against Cameron Vuong in Newcastle.

“To be honest, this is the best decision I could have made,” said the native of Leigh-on-Sea on his promotional pact with Queensberry. “I look at how they have treated their fighters, like Nick Ball, who has got to a world level position with ease and obviously I like what they are doing with all their boys.

“Every boy they’ve got is going places, I am so excited and I cannot wait to get in there. I haven’t boxed for 10 months and I am ready to go.

“When I was in the room with Frank, I looked at the prospects he’s got and I said I would beat them all in due course. He laughed and said I was an eager one.

“If you watched me in the Senior ABAs you would think I am quite flashy and looking out of the ring and stuff. But I can stand there and have it and it is literally down to my opponent how I fight.”

Frank Warren said of his new recruit with over 60 amateur wins on his card: “Frank is another quality addition to our team, he was an exceptional amateur and I am expecting big things from him in the pro ranks.

“We are always working towards the future here at Queensberry and Frank will benefit from the platform we have created and he builds his profile and experience.”
