About BoxWise

OUR SYLLABUS

Having a purpose drives us to achieve something, but first we need to set out a plan to get there. Goal setting is the process through which we channel our motivation, in order to turn a vision into reality.

The ability to adapt to our surroundings is a skill that must be developed in order to be successful – as much in a job interview as in a fight.

Imagine what you can achieve in life and where you would like to see yourself in the future – and then act like the person you have imagined. There is no need to allow the present to block your potential.

Success requires discipline in the physical, mental and spiritual areas of our lives. The commitment to eat right, exercise frequently and make wise choices are vital. Simply put, be a “disciple of discipline”.

  • Teamwork

  • Teamwork skills are needed in almost every area of life. For this reason it is vital we develop techniques and practices, which can help us collaborate with others more effectively.

  • Emotional Control

  • Teamwork skills are needed in almost every area of life. For this reason it is vital we develop techniques and practices, which can help us collaborate with others more effectively.

What we offer...

Testimonials

“I came from having anger issues, so BoxWise was very good for my mental health as it provides a different outlet for my anger. It’s a good way to get rid of that energy. After a session in the gym, I feel more relaxed mentally – it allows me to put my thoughts in order.”

Boxwise Graduate

“After the 10- week programme, I wanted to work on a building site but couldn’t do that without a CSCS qualification. BoxWise helped me get my CSCS card.

I studied online in preparation and then BoxWise booked me in for my test on the date I chose, and they paid for it because I couldn’t afford it at the time. Once I got my card, I signed up with a number of agencies and I’m now working as a labourer on different building sites, which I really enjoy.”

Boxwise Graduate

“It was a great experience. It brought a different atmosphere into the gym. There was much more focus on working together as a group and team building. We played team building games which brought us all closer together as a group and I grew closer to the other lads. This wouldn’t have happened without BoxWise.”

Boxwise Graduate

"This one young lad who had been in a bit of trouble with the police – a lovely boy, who had just fallen in with the wrong crowd. He found the first 3 weeks of the programme really difficult. After that he started excelling to the point where he was looking at becoming an amateur boxer.

He lost so much weight and got really fit, but he also stopped getting into trouble with the police. It gave him a fresh perspective. We then helped him with a pathway to get into the army cadets, which was his dream – and which he didn’t think would happen because he’d previously been rejected from the police cadets."

Queensberry Commit £1 million to Boxwise

Queensberry Promotions has teamed up with BoxWise Foundation, a charity that helps vulnerable young people stay out of trouble and in school or work. As part of this, Frank Warren will also become the first Chairman of the BoxWise Foundation Development Board, and Queensberry have pledged £1 million to support the charity. This pledge is being matched by BoxWise Founder Nick Maughan and incoming development board member, Chris Kilvington, both committing a further £1 million each.

Boxwise's mission

BoxWise delivers 10-week non-contact boxing programmes to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable young people across the UK, striving to reduce the rates of gang violence and knife crime through sport, community and opportunity. Founded in 2020 by Nick Maughan CBE and Rick Ogden MBE, it has grown to support over 1,500 young people across the UK annually. Sessions are delivered by accredited England Boxing coaches and are a safe space for young people to focus on their mental and physical health, develop community ties and build foundations for a long and successful future. Sessions also include a free hot meal, and graduates of the programme are given an opportunity to take part in a pathways programme to support their next steps in education or employment.

BoxWise participants delight crowds at Joshua vs Dubois Weigh-In

A group of our fantastic participants from Islington ABC travelled to a packed-out Trafalgar Square for the fight night weigh-in, where they took to the stage to demonstrate the skills and technique they’ve picked up from their recent BoxWise sessions. Their showcase was a real crowd-pleaser, impressing the crowd with their hooks, jabs and slips.

Queensberry Founder and BoxWise Foundation Development Board Chairman Frank Warren later took to the stage at the weigh-in to highlight the BoxWise mission, stating:

“There’s a charity called BoxWise that we’re involved with that deals with knife crime, they’re doing that on the streets, they’re doing it in the gyms all around the country. Any youngster who wants to go there to go on a 10-week course, and they will be looked after, they’ll learn respect, they’ll get fed every day…it’s a brilliant thing. These are the things we should be out here doing."

"Boxing has given me everything - friends, a business and happiness - but most of all something to wake up in the morning for, a real sense of purpose and belonging.I remember growing up here on the streets of North London, it was really tough, and life could have easily been different for me.That’s why I am delighted that Queensberry is supporting BoxWise and also proud to become the first Chairman of the BoxWise Foundation Development Board".

BoxWise Director and Co-Founder Rick Ogden MBE said:

“We are delighted to welcome Queensberry and are so grateful for their support.“At BoxWise we help those who are vulnerable to becoming victims and perpetrators of knife crime onto a positive way forward in life through their engagement with the sport. Our work with the Centre for Social Justice reveals that sport interventions have been found to reduce offending by 52 per cent, significantly cutting violent crime. We work closely with the police, community organisations and youth authorities to improve young lives and to positively impact society.”Jack*, a recent BoxWise participant, described the impact of the programme on his life:

“Now boxing is my number one priority, it’s my whole life now. In the last 6 months I haven’t missed a single day’s training. Boxing has completely taken over my life, for the better. I’m so much more confident. I stopped smoking because of boxing, I stopped drinking because of boxing, I stopped partying.Everything just seems more clear in my mind when I discovered how important boxing was to me. I love boxing…I came from having anger issues, so BoxWise was very good for my mental health as it provides a different outlet for my anger. It’s a good way to get rid of that energy. After a session in the gym, I feel more relaxed mentally it allows me to put my thoughts in order. "
