Frank Warren Statement On Herring/Frampton Postponement

FRANK WARREN HAS moved to set the record straight following a number of misleading remarks made by Jamel Herring and his trainer in reaction to the WBO world super featherweight title fight against Carl Frampton being delayed due to a hand injury suffered by the Belfast favourite.

In quotes reported by Dan Rafael and later Boxing Scene - who didn’t reach out to Warren or his office for a reply ahead of publishing the Americans’ quotes - Herring complained over 'not being kept in the loop' over the injury news, also claiming to have received no information regarding flights and travel to London for the originally scheduled date of February 27 at the Copper Box Arena.

His trainer, Brian McIntyre, cast doubt on the validity of the injury sustained by Frampton and suggested US broadcasting rights played a part in the postponement.

"The fight was good to go and then Carl got an injury," stated Warren, who pointed out that communication with opposition fighters is conducted via their management.

“Carl called me and sent me a text confirming he was injured and we communicated that to Herring’s representatives.

"As for Herring and his trainer saying they were hearing rumours and were not kept in the loop, we don't deal directly with the fighter or his trainer, we deal with their representatives, who, in this case, is MTK and they had full knowledge of the situation.

"Regarding not receiving airline tickets or details, our office was in touch with MTK on this via email 2 weeks ago and as far as we were concerned, it was all in hand.

"We had no problem staging the fight, no issues with Top Rank. All parties were aware of their financial obligations and had agreed to them.

"I don't want to get into a slanging match with anyone, but the fact is the fight was all set, everything was in place and then Carl got an injury, which we could do nothing about.”
