FURY V JOSHUA SET FOR CARDIFF ON DECEMBER 11

BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHT GREATS Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will meet in the ring in an ultimate showdown on December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

The two Brits, who largely dominated the world heavyweight picture over the last 10 years or more, will finally settle the score on who leaves the lasting legacy.

Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) is a former unified and then WBC world champion, having originally overthrown long-time champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

An inability to defend the IBF title won in Dusseldorf opened the door to Joshua becoming world champion in 2016 when he defeated Charles Martin.

The Gypsy King returned to the ring after overcoming well-documented issues in mid-2018 and, by the end of the year, he was fighting Deontay Wilder for the WBC belt. The first fight was declared a controversial draw before an epic trilogy played out with Fury winning the subsequent two fights, both via stoppage.

Fury went on to defend his WBC title against Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora before entering into a an undisputed double-header against Oleksandr Usyk, where the scorecards went against him.

Joshua defended his IBF title twice before adding the WBA title following a thrilling after against Klitschko in 2017. The following year he unified again with the WBO with a defeat of Joseph Parker and then defended the three belts against Alexander Povetkin.

In 2019 he lost his titles in a shock reverse against Andy Ruiz, which was avenged at the end of the year and he subsequently overcame Kubrat Pulev in 2020. In 2021 the title reign of Joshua came to an end with successive defeats to Usyk, who had come up from cruiserweight.

More recently in 2024, Joshua fought for the IBF title but was knocked out by Daniel Dubois in the fifth round and has since recorded wins over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga.

Fury put himself back in the win column with a decision victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov and then Mariusz Wach, last time out in July.

“This is a fight that had to happen and I am delighted that everything is now in place for a simply huge British collision between the two biggest stars of the sport,” said Frank Warren.

“As always, I am firmly in the corner of Tyson and I have long maintained that Tyson is all wrong for AJ. Now we will all find out for sure in Cardiff.

“Should Tyson triumph as I expect him to, the booming heavyweight division will become even more intriguing. The new generation of new champions will be watching on with big interest.”
