Former WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight Champion

DEREK CHISORA SAW to it that he will enjoy a glorious swan song to his stellar heavyweight career with an unexpected success over former WBO Interim world champion Joe Joyce in July.

In what he said would be his final appearance at London’s o2 Arena, he achieved a triumphant last hurrah against the 2016 Olympic silver medallist with a unanimous verdict following a captivating 12 rounds of action.

The veteran campaigner, who rebranded himself as War Chisora in a career reboot some years ago, is now positioned for a final flourish, insisting that he intends to make it to 50 professional fights.

When considering modern British heavyweights, the name of Derek Chisora is rightly never far from the forefront of the minds of most boxing fans. He has had his good days, his bad days, taken his lumps and bought the Five Guys, whatever the outcome.

He would fully merit a long and distinguished service award for his 48 fights to date, but the powers that be are probably waiting for him to call it a day first. And who knows when that will finally become the case?

What cannot be claimed is that he has been winding down in terms of opposition. His six fights previous to Joyce featured names such as Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, Joseph Parker and Kubrat Pulev.

Chisora has been a two-time world title challenger - against Fury and Vitali Klitschko - and has been competing in significant title fights since 2010. From this time he has fought in some 20 title fights for either British, Commonwealth, European, International or world championship honours.
