Major Achievements
Dickens regrouped and, four wins later, he was back in title business with an IBF European title triumph over Nathaniel May in Liverpool, a title he defended once before winning the WBO European title by defeated Leigh Wood in a Golden Contract tournament, which he would go on to win with a decision victory over Ryan Walsh.
This success put Dickens back into world title contention and his next chance came in August 2021 when he fought Kid Galahad again, this time for the IBF world featherweight title belt. Galahad retired Dickens at the end of the 11th round.
Confronted with another rebuild, Dickens went on to win the IBO world featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Lerato Diamini in Liverpool, but lost the belt in his next fight against Hector Andres Sosa in Dubai. It was the last time he tasted defeat.
Dickens went on to enjoy a keynote triumph over the favoured Zelfa Barrett in Manchester in early 2025, which qualified him for his Interim world title shot last July in Istanbul.
Records and Accolades
Now aligned with Queensberry for the first time, the profile of Dickens took a sharp upturn when it was announced that he was set to fight the great Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux for the WBA Super world super bantamweight title.
It was supposed to happen in Liverpool in March 2016, but Rigondeaux didn’t board his plane to the UK, but it did go ahead in Cardiff four months later. The night of Dickens suffered a cruel twist when his then trainer Paul Stevenson noticed that his jaw was out of place at the end of the second round. The respected trainer had no option other than to pull his fighter out.
The fortunes of Dickens didn’t improve in May of 2017 when he defended his British title against Thomas Patrick Ward in Leeds. Ward being the brother of Martin Ward, who he defeated in his first defence. In Leeds a very close fight came to an abrupt conclusion when a clash of heads resulted in Ward suffering a cut and the fight going to the scorecards. Ward was deemed to be ahead after the eight completed rounds and Dickens’ reign as British champion was over.
Achievements and Titles
Dickens was, for a long time, considered destined for major success and he became English super bantamweight champion in 2013 with victory over Jon Fernandez in his 14th fight as a professional. Two fights later he had his first tilt at becoming British champion when he came up against fellow unbeaten rival Kid Galahad in 2013, but this one didn’t go his way and he was stopped in the 10th.
He was back on the British title track in early 2015 when he defeated Josh Wale to claim vacant belt in his home city of Liverpool and he successfully defended his Lonsdale belt against Martin Ward in November of the same year.
Fighting Style & Techniques
Southpaw Dickens is as tricky as they come and has become harder for opponents to fathom out with age. Whereas he once happily went to war, the 2025 Dickens is one of the smartest fighters in the business and not one many fighters would volunteer to go up against.
Magical footwork is his major strength and an ability to move in and out of range frustrates opponents. Dickens can start and finish a fight at the same tempo and a particular weapon is his ability to move around the target and punch while in motion.
Impact and Popularity
Devout Christian Dickens is one of the most popular personalities on the boxing circuit, one who you will not hear bad words spoken about. He communicates regularly with fans via his own YouTube channel and provides training updates from his camps, which are typically hosted in Dubai.
Future Prospects and Upcoming Fights
On March 14 at the 3Arena in Dublin, Dickens will make a first defence of his WBA world title against domestic super featherweight rival and IBO world champion Anthony Cacace.
