Road To Paris
The 27-year-old missed out on qualification for Tokyo 2020 following a series of stress fractures in his back in 2018 before returning to reap a medal bounty in 2022, which included middleweight silver at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games bronze.
Richardson qualified for the Games by successfully navigating his way through the light-middleweight draw at the 2024 World Olympic Qualification Tournament 2, staged in Thailand. On 7 June 2024, Richardson was officially announced among the Great Britain squad for the Olympics.
Olympics 2024
Richardson was forced to drop down a weight class for the Olympics after the 75kg category was removed from the programme, making his bronze medal success all the more admirable given the weight cuts he was forced to endure across his three fights in Paris.
He was awarded a bye into the second round where he defeated Vahid Abasov from Serbia by a 3:2 split decision, before overcoming Zeyad Ishaish from Jordan in the quarter-finals by another 3:2 split. A 3:2 split went against when he took on Verde in the
semi-finals.
Richardson began boxing as a means to keep fit while playing football but switched his full attention to the ring after winning the 2012 National School Championships.
He left the Paris 2024 Olympic games being the only Great British athlete to medal in the games boxing events.

The Colchester man has now turned professional and will be promoted by Frank Warren and Queensberry.
