MarkChamberlain
"Thunder"
WBC Silver & WBA International Lightweight Champion
Mark Chamberlain is poised to strike and make a meaningful assault on the lightweight division.
With 12 impressive straight wins to his name as a professional, the Wayne Batten-trained banger is already navigating his way up the bills and the power and precision so evident in his performances have caught the eye of fans and BT Sport viewers alike.
Now he wants to be put in fights that provide some jeopardy, ones that strike a little fear into his system and capture the imagination of the fight public.
Fans are already looking ahead longingly at some potential domestic warfare against fellow formidable lightweight Sam Noakes and talk of the pair getting it on escalates when one or the other takes to the ring.
For his part, Mark doesn’t mind at all being a hot topic of conversation where the lightweight division on the home front is concerned. He understands full well that he is in a business where, to get to where you want to be, you need to be talked about and, if you have a prospective dance partner on the horizon, so much the better.
The pair just have to keep winning and we will have a fight on our hands soon enough, when the wider public has been drawn into the intrigue and a worthy title is up for grabs.
Chamberlain himself took a significant step up last time out in March when he took on the experienced Jeff Ofori at Wembley, with the Tottenham man retiring at the end of the fifth.
It was a statement performance and a title opportunity followed with the IBF European title being on the line when he took on Marc Vidal at Wembley in July 2022. Vidal was overwhelmed and Chamberlain scored a complete shutout on the cards, reflecting another hugely impressive display.
He resoundingly defended his belt against Vairo Lenti in February at York Hall, inflicting a first stoppage defeat on the tough Italian in the fifth round with a glorious left hook. In November, Chamberlain would again inflict a first stoppage defeat on tough 16-2 Latvian Artjoms Ramlavs in the 10th round.
Gavin Gwynne would be the next opponent on Mark Chamberlain’s path and the Welsh European champion would not see out the fourth round as Chamberlain added the WBA international title to his growing collection.
