The Last Crescendo

The sequel of the magnificent match for the undisputed light heavyweight championship of the world between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitrii Bivol takes place in Riyadh on February 2022, supported by a card widely believed to be amongst the best ever.

The opening encounter of the unbeaten Beterbiev and Bivol took place in October of last year and was a fight the world had been waiting for. For the first time as a professional, Beterbiev heard the final bell and edged a majority decision on the scorecards.

Now, four months on, the pair will run it back with the fight topping a simply sensational card of boxing that also features a heavyweight championship of the world.

IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, fresh from his explosive destruction of Anthony Joshua in September, makes a second defence of his title against former WBO world champion Joseph Parker.

The formalise is impressive. Dubois has defeated Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Joshua in his last three, while Parker has overcome Simon Kean, Deontay Wilder in Zhilei Zhang. Something will have to give.

Riyadh also hosts a massive middleweight showdown between WBC world champion Carlos Adames and his challenger, the impressive and imposing Hamzah Sheeraz, who has been blasting out all comers to earn his shot.

A second helping of heavyweight action comes with the WBC Interim world championship clash between the Chinese force of nature Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang and the undefeated German Agit Kabayel. Zhang defeated Deontay Wilder last time out via a huge KO, with Kabayel taking the undefeated records of both Arslanbek Makhmudov and Frank Sanchez. The winner will be positioned for a shot at unified world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Other crackers on the card include US star Vergil Ortiz Jr going up against Israil Madrimov with the WBC Interim super welterweight world title at stake, Shakur Stevenson defending his WBC world lightweight title against Floyd Schofield and there will be two Brits battling it out at light heavyweight for the WBO Interim world title when Joshua Buatsi takes on former super middleweight world champion Callum Smith.
