DUBOIS DELIVERS DESTRUCTION

DANIEL DUBOIS REINFORCED his status as probably the most formidable heavyweight in the business with his destruction of Fabio Wardley on Saturday.

While the fight didn’t deliver the 11 rounds of drama that the May original did, what we got was a thrilling five-minute shootout where Daniel proved the ace marksman.

Even though the tempo was fast and ferocious, it was telling that Daniel retained the composure to take a step back at times and not waste his work. A sure sign of maturity as a top heavyweight.

So Daniel has now successfully defended his second world heavyweight championship and, from the champions, you would have to say that he looks the pick of the bunch right now.

He has set the bar for the others to reach and I hope he now gets to fully realise the obvious potential we saw in him all those years ago when he first linked up with Queensberry.

Daniel has got all the physical attributes you need in bundles and it is upstairs where he is now making it all count.

I actually suspect that, if Daniel is fully on it and correctly prepared, he might just be unbeatable.

Yes, people can point to his early defeat to Joe Joyce and his two losses to Oleksandr Usyk. Against Usyk he just got it wrong because they were both fights he could have won with a different approach.

What he can and has taken from the fights is experience, which is a key building block towards us seeing the very best version of Daniel.

His experience includes already fighting most of the best heavyweights in the world, including ex or current world champions in Anthony Joshua, Usyk, Filip Hrgovic and now Fabio.

Thanks to the booming heavyweight scene there are plenty more fantastic options for him moving forward, with unifications also coming into play as we work towards another undisputed champion.

Fabio isn’t out of the picture either because he is a terrific fighter and an even better person.

He has already proven that he can operate at the highest level with his triumph over Joseph Parker and, with a win, he can put himself right back in the thick of it.

Fabio is a fighter people want to watch and get behind and I don’t think anybody would turn their nose up if he found himself in a position to fight the likes of Agit Kabayel or Filip Hrgovic, for example.

Ultimate dominance of this heavyweight division is far from settled and there will be loads more twists and turns to come as we keep making the fights that matter.

The only guaranteed winners at the moment are us lot sitting at ringside or at home watching it all unfold on DAZN.
