British Ace Catterall Spars With Mayweather
By Queensberry Promotions
Jack Catterall, one of Britain's brightest young boxing talents, has been sparring with Floyd Mayweather Jnr. ahead of the American's mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao this Saturday.
The unbeaten 21-year-old from Chorley, the current WBO Intercontinental Light-Welterweight Champion, went out to Las Vegas a month ago and has been racking up the rounds with the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.
Hard-hitting southpaw Catterall, who's got 7 KO's in 11 fights, has had the task of replicating the Filipino star's left handed style.
"Coming out here to spar with Mayweather has been like coming out of school and going straight to university," Said Catterall.
"It's been an unbelievable opportunity to share a ring with one of the greatest fighters of all time in the build to arguably the biggest fight of all time,"
"I've had to distance myself from the admiration that I hold for Mayweather when I'm sparring and remember that I'm out here to do a job and that's help get him ready for Pacquaio,"
"As a young boxer, you can't buy the experience that I've gained from sparring with Mayweather, it's invaluable, and will be bring my career on no end."
Catterall, ranked number 12 by the WBO, is the name on everyone's lips this year as the hotshot rises through the domestic ranks and approaches the world stage.
He's won his last three fights with back-to-back stoppages of Nathan Brough, Thomas Stalker and Cesar Inalef and is keen to get back into the ring when he returns from America.
"I can't wait to get back home and return to action as soon as possible," he added.
"I just want to get back in the ring and fight, it's what I love doing and I'm sure that everyone will notice the improvement when they see me fight again,"
"I've got the WBO Intercontinental crown and a WBO number 12 world ranking, there's no rush with me for a world title, I want to win the British, Commonwealth and European belts before I go for the big one."
