FLANAGAN OUTPOINTS TOUGH RUSSIAN PETROV IN FIFTH TITLE DEFENCE AND TARGETS BLOCKBUSTER SHOWDOWN WITH LOMACHENKO
Manchester’s Terry Flanagan remained undefeated and retained his WBO Lightweight World Title with a victory over tough Russian Petr Petrov at the Manchester Arena, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.
Flanagan earned a well-deserved unanimous decision, with score of 116-112, 118-110, and 120-108. Flanagan was given a good work-out by his experienced opponent before coming on strong in the second half of the contest
After making the fifth successful defence of his WBO crown, ‘Turbo’ is now poised to take on the best boxers in his division. Vasyl Lomachenko, Jorge Linares and Mikey Garcia are three names that the first Englishman ever to win a World Lightweight Title is targeting.
Speaking after his fight Flanagan said: "There's no point in saying I'm the best if I'm not fighting the best. I only want to fight the best. I hope I now get the recognition I deserve. It was a comfortable win against a World level opponent.
“I think I would be too strong for Linares. He would give me more experience against elite boxers before taking on the others.
