Women's Boxing Icon Nicola Adams Receives Obe At Buckingham Palace

NICOLA ADAMS OBE: "THIS MEANS ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING TO ME!" Double Olympic Champion Nicola Adams was delighted to receive her OBE from the Duke of Cambridge earlier today at Bucking Palace. Over the course of London 2012, Nicola became an icon of the Games after winning Great Britain’s first ever female boxing Gold. She instantly became a role model, realising her dream in front of millions, as the nation tuned in to see the world’s best female boxers go toe-to-toe for the first time. In August 2016, she achieved what was the proudest moment of her career so far, in becoming the first British boxer to successfully defend their Olympic title for 92 years. Great Britain’s most accomplished amateur boxer of all time earned a unanimous points decision to beat France’s Sarah Ourahmoune. In recognition of her services to boxing, Nicola was appointed Member Order of the British Empire in the 2013 New Year’s Honours list. And now the British sporting icon is thrilled to have received an OBE for her outstanding achievements and efforts to raise the profile of women’s boxing. Speaking after the event she said: "This means absolutely everything to me, I felt so nervous today, but it's such an honour to receive an OBE. "When I received the letter in the post saying I'd been honoured with an OBE I was like 'wow, this is an amazing achievement', because you spend so many hours in the gym training, competing, winning medals and it's nice to think the country appreciates your efforts."
