Records and Accolades

A long-standing member of the Team GB squad as an elite amateur, Arthur won his first professional title when he became Commonwealth champion in Leeds with a defeat of Emmanuel Anim in October 2019 and made a successful defence against Dec Spelman in the lockdown period, before taking on and outfoxing Anthony Yarde I the first of three encounters in a spooky atmosphere at Church House in Westminster. It was a fight that deserved a raucous and invested crowd.

With his defeat of Yarde, Arthur also became the owner of the WBO Intercontinental title. Arthur went on to perform at the Royal Albert Hall before the date and venue was set for his Yarde rematch at the end of 2021 at London’s Copper Box. Team Arthur was not happy with the fight being staged on Yarde’s East London doorstep.

This time with a crowd, Yarde turned the tables and stopped Arthur inside of four rounds to take home the belts and the disputes over the location of the fight led to a promotional parting of ways.

Records and Accolades

Arthur notched up four straight wins in response to his first career reverse and then, at the end of 2023, an opponent was being sought for Dmitrii Bivol, who was making a defence of his WBA world title on a Riyadh Season event.

Step forward King Lyndon Arthur. Truth be told, Arthur was fully drilled and prepared for such a tall order, but he rolled the dice and took his opportunity. Bivol, unsurprisingly, won comfortably on the scorecards.

One fight in 2024 saw Arthur labour to a split decision victory over the returning Liam Cameron in Bolton to win the WBA Intercontinental title, before it was decided that a trilogy match with Yarde was the way forward.

Tottenham Hotspur was the venue and Arthur seemed to be getting the better of it, with his trademark jab causing havoc. However, Yarde got up close and forced the issue in the second half of the fight to claim a 2-1 victory over the course of the three fights. But Arthur is not done yet, far from it.

Major Achievements

In the last of the four straight wins following his first defeat to Yarde, Arthur became IBO world light heavyweight champion with a KO-success over Braian Nahuel Suarez in Bolton. His reign as holder ended with the decision loss to Bivol.

Fighting Style & Techniques

Mention the name Lyndon Arthur to a boxing fan and the first attribute to spring to mind will be the Manchester man’s jab. He has certainly got the gift of the jab and it is a weapon he employs to huge effect.

"KING ARTHUR"

Arthur has been accused, at times, of having a somewhat laid back style inside of the ring, not always showing urgency or finding the need to blast out opponents, even when he can.

It is more a sign of him relying on natural talent and ability, as well as a massive belief in his own powers.

Impact on Boxing and Popularity

A bright future was predicted for Arthur from the moment he entered the professional ranks in tandem with his trainer and mentor Pat Barrett, the famous Black Flash, who has guided his career from the fabled Collyhurst & Moston gym in the pair’s home city.

Barrett actually promoted himself some 10 of Arthur’s first 14 fights as he personally saw to it that his fighters got the required grounding ahead of taking on televised assignments.

After this process, promotional duties were placed in the hands of Queensberry and Frank Warren, with an obvious build towards an enticing clash with the then Poster Boy Yarde.

By being built and developed on his own doorstep, Arthur became more known as a Manchester Man About Town. Arthur is low key and will never get above himself or become big time. It is simply not in his nature and this ensures his popularity endures in his local area.

Future Prospects and Upcoming Fights

Nothing has been made official or pencilled in just yet following his Euro-triumph, but the possibilities are huge for Arthur now he is armed with a prestigious belt.

You only have to look around his Queensberry stable to see that there is no shortage of options, although a fourth fight with Yarde can probably be ruled out!
