Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk 2

Tyson Fury is set to meet Oleksandr Usyk for the second time in his career, just 10 months after the Ukrainian denied the “Gypsy King” the chance to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

The electrifying rematch between the two of the world’s best heavyweights is set to take place on the 21st of December 2024 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - just days before Christmas.

The highly anticipated bout between two of the world’s best boxers has been made possible by a powerful partnership between Queensberry Promotions, led by Frank Warren, and the investment and vision of Riyadh Season, which is overseen by His Excellency Turki Alalshikh.

Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Previous Fights

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have only met once before. Their first bout, which was billed as “Ring of Fire” took place on the 18th of May, 2024 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

After a competitive 12-round battle, Usyk, who is also known as “The Cat,” emerged victorious after claiming a split decision. Two of the judge’s scorecards read 115-112 and 114-113 in favour of Usyk while the third judge scored the matchup 114-113 in favour of Fury.

Prior to this super fight, both fighters led a number of other events throughout their careers, which have cemented their reputations as two of the most formidable heavyweights in modern boxing. Their reputation, staggering professional records, and what’s at stake are just some of the reasons that make the bouts between the two fighters so captivating for boxing fans from around the world.

Before fighting Usyk, the Gypsy King defeated Francis Ngannou, Derek Chisora, and Dillion Whyte. Prior to those three matchups, Fury completed one of the most legendary trilogies where he toppled the Bronze Bomber, Deontay Wilder to win and retain the WBC world heavyweight championship of the world.

In late 2015, Fury had also gone ahead and defeated the long-reigning champion, Wladimir Klitschko for the first time in almost a decade, which would later change the course of the heavyweight division.

As for Usyk, after a dominant career as a cruiserweight, in 2019, he moved up to the heavyweight division and would later defeat Anthony Joshua in back-to-back fights, claiming the IBF, IBO, WBO, and WBA heavyweight titles. These two fights alone drew enough attention to the 2012 Olympic gold medalist and solidified his status as one of the elite fighters in the heavyweight division.

What’s at Stake

The winner of the Tyson Fury Oleksandr Usyk rematch will walk away with the WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight titles. However, this bout that will be watched by millions of boxing fans from around the world is more than just titles for both fighters.

Fury will seek redemption and aim to restore his legacy as the top heavyweight in the world, as he faces immense pressure to prove his resilience and dominance after a narrow loss to Usyk in their first encounter.

On the other hand, Usyk finds himself in a similar situation to the one when he fought Anthony Joshua for the second time. He now needs to not only defend his titles but also his reputation as the man who had proven himself unbeatable by British fighters.

Having already completed the job against Anthony Joshua twice, “The Cat” now faces Fury with the same determination to demonstrate his dominance over Britain’s best heavyweights.

But will that happen or will Fury rise to the occasion as he has done numerous times before and reclaim his throne? Get your tickets and let’s find out together on the 21st of December 2024 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Tyson Luke Fury

“The Gypsy King”

Tyson Fury, also known as the “Gypsy King” is one of the most celebrated heavyweight boxers of all time. Fury’s professional career spans over 15+ years, which has been marked by a number of defining victories.

One of the most memorable moments in Tyson’s career is from 2015 when Fury triumphed in the bout against Wladimir Klitschko. This ended the Ukrainian’s decade-long reign, earning Fury the WBO, IBF, and IBO titles and changing the heavyweight division as we once knew it forever.

Following his win over Klitschko, Fury took a break from professional boxing and allowed the heavyweight division to go on. Despite a hiatus for personal struggles, Fury’s return in 2018 with Queensberry Promotions and Frank Warren led to his iconic trilogy with Deontay Wilder, culminating in Fury capturing and defending the WBC title.

With one of the most unconventional fighting styles, unwavering determination, towering height of 6’9* and impressive reach of 85 inches - Tyson has managed to achieve an impressive professional record of 34 wins (24 of which by KO), 1 loss, and 1 draw ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Usyk

“The Cat”

Oleksandr Usyk, also known as “The Cat” is a professional boxer who first built his reputation as one of the most dominant boxers in the cruiserweight division. Over the course of his career in the cruiserweight division, the Ukrainian got nothing but success, achieving a perfect professional record.

Following his triumph over Tony Bellew in Manchester and winning his 16th consecutive fight, the Ukrainian decided to call it a day and move up to the heavyweight division. Almost immediately, he faced one of the toughest challenges in heavyweight boxing: a title fight against Britain’s Anthony Joshua.

Usyk’s agility, technical skill, and ring IQ proved too much for Joshua, as he claimed victory in a stunning upset. Usyk then solidified his dominance by defeating Joshua again in their 2022 match, securing the IBF, IBO, and WBO heavyweight titles.

Just over a year later, in 2023, Usyk faced Daniel Dubois and won via a KO in the 9th round. Nine months later, Usyk took on the challenge to fight Tyson Fury at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Following a competitive 12-round fight, Usyk came out victorious after a split decision.

Although Oleksandr Usyk is relatively new to the heavyweight division, his rise to prominence in this weight class has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite him being shorter than Fury’s towering height of 6’9”, he’s quick on his feet and is often a step ahead of his competition, which is why Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury II is set to be another incredible spectacle.
