WillyHutchinson
"the Hutch Train"
Former World Title Challenger
WILLY HUTCHINSON won European Junior and World Youth Amateur titles as a youngster - the first Scot to win a World amateur gold medal.
Hutchinson signed up with promoter Frank Warren in 2018 and in the same year joined Sheffield trainer Dominic Ingle at the world famous Wincobank gym that produced Naseem Hamed. He currently operates his training base over in Spain under the stewardship of Mirko Wolf.
Warren has often heaped praise on the prospect and is still backing him to live up to his potential despite an upset defeat in March, 2021 along with his most recent fight.
Hutchinson was strongly tipped to win the vacant British and Commonwealth title against Lennox Clarke but his older and more experienced opponent stopped him in five rounds.
Hutchinson has rarely been threatened since turning professional in October 2017 when he stopped Attila Tibor Nagy inside a round.
Before the Clarke setback seven of his previous nine opponents failed to hear the final bell.
He got back on the winning trail in June 2022 back at light heavyweight and recorded a third round stoppage over Karel Horejsek in Telford.
He followed this up with a seventh round stoppage victory over Luca Spadaccini at York Hall in November 2022 before winning his maiden professional title, the WBC International belt, in May with a resounding fourth round stoppage of Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna.
He followed up his Maderna performance and reinforced his increasing credentials with a second round stoppage of Martin Huber in March 23 with a win that convinced Frank Warren to include him in the historic 5 vs 5 promotional battle that took place in Riyadh back in June.
Hutchinson against the experienced world title challenger Craig Richards opened the show and the younger man delivered a career-best display to overcome Richards and give his team a 1-0 lead that they were later to extend to 10-0.
Hutchinson was then pushed forward for a shot at the WBO Interim world championship against fellow Brit Joshua Buatsi at Wembley Stadium in September, but this time he was edged out on the cards via a split decision.
