Glasgow Calling
By Frank Warren
Watch every Queensberry show live worldwide on DAZN.
It is not the international break in football just yet, but our Scotland squad is in action this weekend at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow.
I truly believe in the clutch of young talent we have assembled north of the border and there will be so many exciting nights ahead as they develop and push towards title contention.
On a personal level, it is always very gratifying for me when former fighters bring their sons to Queensberry and entrust us with guiding their journeys. It is very special to have both Drew Limond and Alex Arthur Jr in our team and, if they do everything right, both have got a very bright future ahead of them.
Drew and Alex will be fighting on Saturday, along with our other Scottish recruits in Reece Lynch and Marcus Sutherland.
Reece is a quality operator, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist at light welterweight also won bronze at the 2021 World Championships staged in Belgrade, becoming the first Scottish boxer to medal at a senior world championships.
Marcus is an all-action featherweight, very much in the Nick Ball-mould, which is clearly no bad thing. He is extremely popular and he realises the importance of delivering entertainment.
From a little bit further south, I am delighted that we are able to introduce John Joe Carrigan to the boxing public on Saturday. As far as top amateur talents go, John Joe is right up there with the best of the best and is still just 18.
In 2024 alone, the nine-time National champion from Carlisle won the Under-19 World Championships, became European Youth champion and won the Three Nations title, along with the Haringey Box Cup. Not a bad haul.
Elsewhere on the card in support of the headline act of Nathaniel Collins against Cristobal Lorente for the European featherweight title and top billing with the WBC, we have three cracking championship fights that I am certain catch fire. We’ve got a British lightweight title clash between Regan Glackin and the English champion Louie O’Doherty. Don’t miss this one.
We also have a belter at light heavyweight, with Willy Hutchinson taking on Mark Jeffers as he seeks to force his way back into the world elite mix. Also keep an eye out for the Celtic middleweight title clash between the formidable Aston Brown and his challenger Paul Kean.
Plus, Glasgow will also get to see the second pro fight of Yandiel Lozano-Oquendo, the 18-year-old star from Puerto Rico, who signed up with us at Queensberry earlier this year. The lightweight, who won the silver medal at the 2024 IBA World Youth Championships, concluded his amateur journey with a final record of 119 wins against only nine defeats.
This is going to be a cracking fight card and you can see all the early fights via our YouTube channel before tuning into DAZN from 7pm.
