HEAVYWEIGHT TRAIN KEEPS MOVING

THE HEAVYWEIGHT LANDSCAPE continues to shift. Dereck Chisora assures that he is now ready to exit stage left, while Deontay Wilder promises a few more nights of punching panto. This week sees the return of the Gypsy King to his heavyweight stage.
Dereck vs Deontay on Saturday was a typically chaotic affair and it was a well-matched fight for where they are both at in their respective careers. It was exciting in its own way and it should probably serve as a fitting farewell for both of them.
Dereck wanted to get to 50 and he has now cemented his place in British boxing folklore, deservedly so. His career journey will certainly never be forgotten, but perhaps most memorable will be the way he got the British public behind him in more recent years.
Deontay, who I have always liked, shouldn’t take too much stock from this success and future moves will need to be carefully navigated.
Likewise, Tyson is testing himself on Saturday against Arslanbek Makhmudov to see what he has got left in the tank.
He is fresh following a good break and when I went to see him a couple of days ago he was in incredible shape - as good as I have seen him ever.
Now it is a case of executing everything under the lights at Tottenham Hotspur and, should he deliver the goods, he will put himself right back into the elite mix.
The big highlight for me last Saturday was Denzel Bentley seizing the WBO Interim world middleweight title with a clinical finish against Endry Saavedra in the seventh round.
Denzel should be an inspiration to all fighters with the way be has bounced back from setbacks and got himself back into position. He is the perfect illustration that a loss doesn’t count against you if you work hard, improve and are prepared to come back in proper fights.
I was delighted last week to announce the double signing of our new Boys from Brazil. Luiz Oliverira and Yuri Falcao are now both Queensberry fighters as we continue to broaden our horizons.
It takes me back a few years to the beginning of the millennium when we promoted Acelino Freitas, the great super featherweight and lightweight world champion, for a spell.
He first sampled the British scene when he fought at the Everton Park Sports Centre against Peter Buckley at the end of 1998 and went on to defeat Barry Jones for the WBO title at the Doncaster Dome in January 2000. We went on to promote him in São Paulo, Detroit and Sheffield.
Both Oliverira and Falcao have the potential to become very special fighters and you will see them both fight here in the UK.
